A high quality, low-impact product that only gets better with age, naturally tanned leather bags are designed to be loved for years and then repurposed back into the economic cycle.
However in order to get your leather products lasting as long as possible, here are some tips on how to care for your vegetable tanned leather to keep it loved and durable for as long as possible.
But first, what is naturally tanned leather?
Naturally tanned leather uses vegetable and plant-based agents in the tanning process, eliminating all harsh chemicals and preservatives used in modern chromium tanning. It is an environmentally-friendly form of tanning that gives leather a uniquely soft, natural-looking finish.
Leather is a natural material and at Natural Nuance it is our aim to celebrate the authenticity, individuality, and quality of this material. By using natural tanning agents, we are able to prolong the life of our products.

How to Care - Favourite Tips
Sun exposure, daily usage, humidity, and conditioning will darken natural vegetable tanned leather and give it a beautiful rustic patina over time.
However, there are some steps you should be taking to help with the long term health and development of the leather. Here are some of our favourite tips for taking good care of your leather bags and getting years of love and use out of them:
- Keep your leather away from extreme heat sources, like heaters or direct sunlight, and never use a blow-dryer. This can cause it to dry out, ridge, and crack. Any adverse weather condition can cause damage to your leather, such as water, grease, heat, light, high humidity or dryness.
- Do not use water or soap when cleaning your bag. Excessive water can damage and alter the overall structure of your leather bag, while chemicals from some soaps can ruin leather over time. In case of contact with water, wipe off the liquid immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth to avoid marks.
- To preserve its beauty, leather products need an occasional rest. When it is not being worn, stuff your Natural Nuance leather bags with a cloth or paper to retain the structure and store in a cool, dry place.
- Avoid exposing your leather bags to certain substances that can damage leather irrevocably. This can include pen ink and products containing grease and alcohol, like makeup, lipstick, and perfume.
